Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Today was my last day in Vietnam and it was a fun one :) This morning at 8am I met Leila for breakfast on the ship, and after that, we left on the shuttle into town. We really wanted to get dresses made, and after visiting a few shops, we didn't think it would be possible. All of the people were telling us 2 days, 2 days! The sizes here are very small too so pre-made would be difficult. The women here are at least 5 inches shorter than me and many seem to be wearing children's sized clothing. Somehow we found one place who agreed to make it by 8pm tonight so we got silk from another shop and brought it back to draw designs and get measured. After that we went shopping for a little while and went to this place called Tutti Frutti that had the best frozen yogurt with all kinds of different toppings. I came back and cleaned up everything in my room...which was a disaster. Around 5 in the afternoon I decided to go back out to do a little shopping for my family. I spent so long...probably an hour...in this one store looking at the same things trying to decide. I also got pho noodles at pho 24...a very popular Vietnamese restaurant. It was so nice because I enjoyed being alone after being with people all of the time. I felt so independent. I am usually not the best with directions but I found my way around in the middle of Vietnam, and crossed the busy streets with motorcycles everywhere (you can't wait for a break because there will never be one), and I did everything on my own. I got to pick up my dress a little bit early which is absolutely beautiful - I am so excited. I feel lucky I was able to get it done in time, and decided to have two more made that are being shipped to the states! No more big purchases for me after the rug and dresses! :) So then after I met up with Leila at the dress shop we decided we should catch the shuttle back. We saw the 8pm bus drive past us, so we went into a DVD store and got on the 8:30 shuttle. It left a couple minutes late, and when we got back there was a huge line with people coming back from a SAS Cambodia trip. So anyways long story short, we were not on ship for 9pm and got dock time. I was only a few minutes late and get 3 hours in the next country - 1-15 minutes is 3 hours and I think 16-30 minutes is 6 hours. It kind of sucked but I wasn't really mad because I found it funny that I was a few meters away from swiping my card and got dock time after being in the line for over 30 minutes. Oh well. Some faculty were in the line too and were pretty mad and are saying they are going to fight it. So that's my night...I've just been uploading pictures and eating candy corn that Tori's parents brought when they came to see her. I can't believe I will be in China in 2 days...Great Wall of China (random fact: you can see it from space!) and hopefully pandas at the Beijing Zoo!
